ADAM Voges was hit on the back of the head when fielding for Middlesex on Sunday, but released from hospital later in the day.Australia Test batsman Adam Voges was released from hospital yesterday after suffering a freak head injury during a County Championship match between Hampshire and Middlesex.
Voges, the Middlesex captain, was struck on the back of his head by the ball when fielding at the Ageas Bowl, after wicketkeeper John Simpson had missed a throw from the deep.
After receiving treatment on the field, Voges was taken to hospital with suspected concussion. However, a positive update on the condition of the 36-year-old, who averages a staggering 95.50 in Tests for Australia since making his debut in June 2015, was duly provided.
Middlesex’s official Twitter account shared a message from BBC journalist Kevin Hand, which read: “Just seen @acvoges at hotel, back from hospital and feeling a lot better but splitting headache. #massiverelief.”
Earlier, Middlesex director of cricket Angus Fraser had told BBC Radio London: “The feeling from the physio is that Adam has got concussion. It was a freak injury.
“It’s sad for Adam and disappointing for us, as we are not going to have any more use of him in this game.
“He wasn’t feeling very well in the dressing room so we decided to get him taken to hospital. He feels a lot better now and seems to be coming around.”
Player safety has been a hot topic in English domestic cricket in recent weeks, with Alastair Cook and Jonathan Trott each instructed to change their helmets by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) after initially opting against wearing headwear that met new safety requirements.
