Vendor ordered to pay for pepper sauce –or spend two weeks in prison

STABROEK Bazaar vendor Carlos Henry, 43, of Lot 54 Grove, East Bank Demerara, appeared yesterday before City Magistrate Ann McLennan to answer a damage to property charge which detailed that on December 11 at Stabroek Market, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously damaged one bottle of pepper sauce, valued at $1,000, property of Pamela Welcome.

Police Prosecutor Dinero Jones told the court that on the day in question, Henry had gone to Welcome’s stall with a friend and had requested two boxes of food. After eating, Henry tendered S1000 and said he was paying $400 and $500 for the food. When Welcome told him he had taken two boxes of food each costing $500, Henry became angry and damaged the bottle containing the pepper.

He was ordered to repay Welcome for the bottle of pepper sauce, with a default of two weeks’ imprisonment.
