USA softball teams coming to defend their silverware

TWO teams from the New York Softball Cricket League (NYSCL) are due to take part in the upcoming third annual Guyana Softball Cup and NYSC president Eric Ferrier has disclosed that his charges will be coming not only to win but also to entertain.

Ferrier, in his e-mail to the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GSCA) said, “For many of us here in the United States the opportunity to visit Guyana to play cricket is truly a nostalgic occasion.”
He went on to thank the GSCA for affording them the opportunity to visit Guyana and to participate.”
As defending champions of the premier competition, Ferrier said it is their intention to successfully defend the cup as well as add the Over-45 trophy to our collection
However, while it is our expressed desire to win both competitions our principal mission is to entertain the cricket-loving fans of Guyana, ‘New York Style’, Ferrier said.
Parallel to entertaining the cricket-loving fans, the New York softball players anxiously look forward to bonding with our “brothers and sisters” in the land of our birth.
The winning team in this year’s tournament will receive $600 000 and a trophy while the player-of-the-series will receive a 14-carat gold bracelet valued at $150 000 and a trophy.
The opening ceremony gets under way at 17:30hrs on November 7 at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda.
