The objective was to make attendees aware of Peace, and why it is necessary that peace be practised among human beings.

UNICEF’s Michael Giles, Senior Environmental Officer Candacie Thompson, Bishop Francis, OSB, and teachers and students of The Marian Academy were all present at the ceremony, during the course of which songs were sung, presentations and prayers were made by students and teachers, and a special reading and prayer was done by Bishop Francis, OSB.

In brief remarks, Mr. Michael Giles stated that peace should be reflected in our daily lives and also mainly in schools, because this is a key practice in order to bring about unity among human beings.

Ms. Thompson said the environment plays a key role in world peace, because most wars stem from overuse of economic resources; so it is necessary that one learns more about one’s environment so that peace can prevail.

She further stated that persons should practise using resources carefully, and some tips she pointed out on how to carefully use resources and make peace include planting trees, buying local products, conserving resources, staying informed on what is going on around you, and donating to persons in need materials that you don’t use anymore.

In closing, Ms. Thompson encouraged persons to make peace in the environment, because that would, in turn, start the process of bringing peace to the nation.
