Understanding…from a teen’s point of view!

> Ebola

Hello there! How was your past week? I do hope every one of you had a great but safe Diwali and I hope that this Diwali blesses you with every good thing you want for yourself- whether you’re Hindu or not! This week, however I’ll be talking about “Ebola.”

Ebola is no longer as we Guyanese people say- “a joking matter”; taking more than 4000 lives and is deadly a few days contact, Ebola is something to seriously start taking precautions for. It is said to have originated from Africa and so far, it has taken the greatest toll on Africa. The signs of this virus are a fever, pain and eventually bleeding from various parts of the body.

* Quote for the week: (by Marie Curie)
“One never notices what has been done; one can only see what remains to be done.”

I would like to take some time to commend the Ministry of Health for at least starting to implement a few precautionary measures at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport to quickly detect persons who may come into Guyana with the Ebola virus. However, I feel that these precautionary measures should also be applied to the Ogle Airport and other entry points to Guyana. The World Health Organisation and other international health organizations are working acidulously to find a cure for this virus but until now, nothing of the sort has be said to be created.
It is popular belief that “if the virus is to reach Guyana, we’ll all die,” but instead of waiting for the Ebola virus to come here or waiting for a cure, we can start taking precautions. Precautions such as getting any family member coming into Guyana from abroad checked before making physical contact and keeping updated with the most recent news on this virus. It’s only a matter of time before someone – somewhere finds some effective cure for this virus but until that time comes, we just have to take these precautions and hope and pray for the best.
C’mon everyone, spread the word. Let’s all take precautions and support the efforts made by persons who are trying to help to prevent this virus from entering Guyana.

See you again next week, right here on your favourite and best newspapers! Good bye!
