DUBBED the ‘Arm of War’, the third edition of the Ultimate Arm Wrestling championship was officially launched yesterday at the 704 Sports Bar in Alberttown, Georgetown.The 704 Sports Bar has teamed up with a number of business entities to host the two-day event which is set to commence on May 14, with its first preliminary round. The event concludes on May 21.
At the launching, it was revealed that the event will have challengers in the ladies open category while the men’s side is divided into four categories – 0-159lb, 160-180lb, 181-199lb and 200lb and over.
It was also revealed that over $500 000 will be up for grabs, and registration forms will be available at all leading gyms in Georgetown and at the 704 Sports Bar.
Meanwhile, Manager of 704 Sports Bar, Roy McArthur, disclosed that the event is another way of giving sports fans more entertainment.
He said the organisation decided to host the tournament for the third time, because of the tremendous growth of the sport.
“We have seen over the past two years the kind of interest Arm Wrestling was shown, and based on that we have decided to have it a third time. We are looking to extend with the inclusion of foreign participants next year,” McArthur pointed out.
To date, Gizmos and Gadgets, Ansa McAL and Tec Pro Guyana have confirmed their partnership with 704 Sports Bar for this year’s event.
The event is expected to have all of its previous champions, with 704 aiming to provide insurance for all players in case of any mishaps. (Rajiv Bisnauth)
