Two remanded for trafficking narcotics

THIRTY-six-year old Aldo Haratto Brook of Lot 102 Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, and 30-year-old Marvin Pestano of Lot 113 Campbellville Housing Scheme, Georgetown, both charged with trafficking narcotics, were yesterday refused bail by Magistrate Judy Latchman. The duo pleaded not guilty to the charge separately, that said on Saturday, September 13 at Karuni, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, they had in their possession 17 grammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana) for the purpose of trafficking.

Police Prosecutor Michael Grant did not disclose the facts of the case. However, he opposed bail on the basis of the nature and gravity of the offence and the fact that in order for bail to be granted, special circumstances must be advanced by the defence.
The unrepresented men were remanded to prison until September 17 (Wednesday), when they will appear before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
