AFTER almost a month on remand, a 24-year-old man accused of shooting a teen during an argument at Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke-Linden Highway in June, was granted $300,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Wednesday.Andrew Fields, known as “Two Feet” of Lot 12 Grove, East Bank Demerara, is accused of discharging a loaded firearm at Kevin Batson with intent to commit murder on June 20 at Kuru-Kururu. He has since pleaded not guilty to the charge.
At yesterday’s hearing, Fields was granted bail after the prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones, explained to the court that Batson had been discharged from the hospital a few weeks ago and is currently on remand at the Camp Street Prison for a criminal offence.
The prosecution made no objections to bail being granted, but requested that it be set at a substantial sum. The chief magistrate subsequently released Fields on $300,000 bail and adjourned the matter to August 22.
According to a police report, on June 20 at 20:00hrs at Kuru Kururu Squatting Area, Linden Highway, 18-year-old Batson was involved in an argument over a brush- cutter and spray can with Fields.
It is alleged that Fields pulled out a firearm and shot Batson to the right side of his chest.
