Two bailed in larceny of Blackberry Torch

LARCENY defendant Joel Gittens, called “Bolo”, appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus charged with simple larceny.

The defendant, who faces a joint charge with Keon Thompson, complained in the New Amsterdam court of being kicked in his scrotum by an investigating rank, resulting in severe pain and swelling.
Police said on September 8, the duo, went into the Evil Eyes General merchandise store, where they stole a Blackberry Torch cellular phone valued at $65,000, property of Tanicia [One name given].
According to the prosecutor, Police Sergeant Godfrey Playter, the virtual complainant was at her workplace when she placed the cellular phone on top of the counter.
Seconds later, the defendants entered the premises and while Gittens engaged her in a conversation, Thompson allegedly removed the device.
They were subsequently arrested however and blamed each other for committing the act.
Meanwhile, at the New Amsterdam court, Gittens told the court, that after he had left the barber, the named investigating rank picked him up and took him to the Reliance Police Station, where he attempted to hold a confrontation between the two men. Gittens said he opted to remain silent, which infuriated the plainclothes cop, who “kicked me on my seeds.”
Further, the defendant,displaying pus flowing from his elbow, said it was a result of several punctures inflicted by another rank, who used a “jukker” about his body.
Thereafter, the magistrate ordered that the prosecutor raise the complaint with his superiors.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge and were released on $40,000 bail each. They are expected to return to court on October 30 for statements and fixture.
