THREE players, yet to be named, have signed contracts to play in the T20 World Cup for the West Indies amid a despute between those selected and the West Indies Cricket Board over pay.The dispute, brought to light by captain Darren Sammy, is over wages said to have been agreed upon in the aftermath of a walkout of a tour of India last year.
The disclosure that some players had already signed the contract came from West Indies Cricket Board CEO Michael Muirhead.
With the today’s deadline for signing the contracts fast approaching, Muirhead says he believes all the players will make themselves available for selection.
“I am confident I think they will sign. I think just the tone of Sammy’s letter. I think he almost sound like he is speaking for himself but I assume he is speaking on behalf of most of the players if not all,” said Muirhead.
“I assume that most if not all will sign not withstanding they may be some outstanding issues that he may want to take up after but certainly nothing could happen before. So I am confident that they will sign”.
Sammy has since said he wants to go to the bargaining table after the World Cup, however, according to Muirhead, the WICB will not bargain with a small group of players. Any negotiations, the CEO said, would have to be done with the West Indies Players Association.
