Teenage sex workers on robbery charge

THREE teenage male sex workers appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Friday, charged with the offence of armed robbery. The matter was held in camera, since they are minors ranging in age from 14 to 16 years old.

The trio has pleaded not guilty to a charge detailing that on Wednesday, February 3, being armed with a knife, they robbed an elderly man of $110,000 in cash.

Magistrate McLennan remanded the 16-year-old to prison and placed the two younger defendants on $25,000 bail each. The matter will be called again on February 25.

The Guyana Chronicle understands that the three accused are no strangers to the court, since they have prior charges and convictions. The current charge stems from a video which went viral on social media, with one accused worker verbally and physically assaulting the victim.
