Teen bandit shot by off-duty police

A SENIOR police officer of the Guyana Police Force was shot and injured by a teenage bandit when he came under fire Monday night after intercepting a robbery in West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.The officer was exiting his vehicle when he witnessed the robbery and the bandit began to fire at him. He retaliated hitting the bandit about his body.

Police said at about 23:00h Monday an 18-year-old suspect, who in the company of another armed accomplice robbed a resident of West Ruimveldt of cell phones.

He said the bandit opened fire on the off-duty officer who returned fire hitting him. A .32 revolver with two live rounds and four spent shells were found at the scene. A cell phone, property of the victim of the robbery was found in the possession of the 18 year old suspect.

The suspect is under police guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital. The teenager’s accomplice escaped.
