THE Guyana Amazon Warriors outfit have had a dream run so far in this year HERO Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with ten points from six games, and are the favourites to win the title for the first time. The league leaders, the early pacesetters of the tournament with four consecutive victories, suffered their only defeat against Trinbago Knight Riders by seven runs last Sunday, their third home fixture.

But the Warriors returned to winning ways on Tuesday evening when they crushed St Lucia Zouks by eight wickets with both their batting and bowling firing simultaneously.
However, after the win, head coach Roger Harper has singled out teamwork as one of the main factors in his team’s success so far.
“With five wins out of six games and while a lot of credit has to go to the captain, the team as a whole as put together, worked together as a team … teamwork is what has gotten us this far and we look forward to achieve even much more,” the former West Indies vice-captain pointed out.
Harper added, “I am much satisficed of what we achieve here … we set out to try and win each game, but to go away with three wins at home, and while we were disappointed to lose against Trinidad (Trinbago Knight Riders) because we could have played a lot better, we are satisfied that we have come out with three wins.
Further Harper was quick to defend the selection of Christopher Barnwell in the playing eleven, despite his limited success.
“Well, we know what he (Barnwell) is capable of and we know what the team requires, I think players batting down the order, there needs some firepower and we know what Barnwell can do and we have faith when we really need him he will deliver,” said Harper.
Meanwhile, captain Martin Guptill was pleased that his team returned to their winning ways.
“It’s been brilliant for us at the top of the innings. We had a great start with the bat, the way Lynn (Chris) and Jason (Mohammed) played was superb. A tight game here few nights ago but glad that we are back to winning ways,” Guptill said.
Further, Lynn and Guptill have galvanised the Guyana Amazon Warriors top-order with entertaining knocks, but Jason Mohammed has shown on a few occasions that he has the ability to provide the ballast and the impetus when required.
The Trinidadian has won two Man-of-the-Match awards so far, but has credited his success to his maturity.
“Yea, definitely I think my maturity has improved as the tournament progressed, but I haven’t said that I think the Guyana Amazon Warriors have allowed me to play the way I want to play which is to bat in the middle.
“I am a pretty slow starter and I have gained momentum and they have given me that opportunity to play so it’s working well for me so far,” Mohammed said after the Warriors win on Tuesday evening.
The Warriors departed early yesterday morning for Jamaica where they will play the home team tomorrow from 20:00hrs (21:00hrs Guyana time).
