TEACHERS involvement in Education Month activity was the aim of Monday’s “Primary school teachers” Jeopardy competition during which three teachers representing Region Four emerged victorious.The teachers are: Pravina St Davis; Melinna Matthews and Collis Dublin.

The Ministry of Education in collaboration with National Center for Educational Resource Development (NCERD) hosted the event for the first time as part of Education Month activities. It was hosted at the Pegasus Hotel in the Savannah Suite. According to the host of the event Samantha Williams, the jeopardy competition was held in order to keep the involvement of teachers in Education Month. She went on to say that students were invited to the competition so as to develop a positive attitude of their teachers after seeing them perform in a competition. The competition will be held annually as it stands as a ground of improvement for both the students and teachers.
Monday’s competition saw primary school teachers from Regions Three, Four, Five, Six and Ten. The Georgetown teachers won 2800 points and were qualified for the final round during the initial stage. Three other regions then started their competition in which Region Three emerged first place with 5000 points. Luckily Region Four also secured a place in the final game after gaining 4800 points.

The final round of the competition was left in the open. But there can only be one winner, with the judge’s decision being final, Region Four was declared the winner with 16500 points, followed by Georgetown who scored 15,100 points and the second runner up being Region Three with 5000 points. Area tested on was all related to subjects being taught in schools except for questions on the development of NCERD and Rhyming Riddles.
All participants of the competition were awarded small tokens and a certificate of participation. The three finalists were awarded trophies for the region they represented.
