Taxi driver,miner charged with robbery under arms

A TAXI driver and a 22-year-old miner were yesterday refused bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine Beharry,for robbery under arms . Nicoli Brasil of Lot 99 Laing Avenue,West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, and Terry Cromwell of Lot 130 King Edward Street, Albouystown, pleaded not guilty to the charge that said on Tuesday, September 9 at Enachu Street, Section K Campbellville, Georgetown, being together armed with a gun they robbed Ashanti Lawrence of one bag, one Samsung Galaxy cellular phone, two jerseys, one pair of jeans and cash $12,000 together valued $105,500.
Police Prosecutor Michael Grant told the court that on the day in question around 11:30 hrs, the victim was walking along Enachu Street and had the articles mentioned in the charge in her bag.
The two defendants confronted her at gun point and relieved her of the articles. Subsequently, she reported the matter and acting on information ranks went to the defendants’ homes,where they were identified by the victim.
The prosecutor successfully opposed bail on the grounds of the nature and gravity of the offence and the fact that a weapon was allegedly used to commit the offence.
The unrepresented duo who have no prior convictions will return to court on September 30 before Magistrate Judy Latchman.
