Taxi driver held after knife wielder robs women

TWO women, fortunately,  escaped injuries when a lone knife wielding bandit robbed them yesterday morning.
The victims, 53-year-old Tunawattie Rambally and her former tenant, Sharon Earle, 37, who was visiting, at Lot 187 Second Avenue, Eccles, East
Bank Demerara, were surprised by the robber who bound their hands and feet and fled with their money and jewellery.
Earle told the Guyana Chronicle she was cutting Rambally’s hair about 11:00 hrs on the back steps of the two-storey house when the man surprised them.
“He grabbed me by the neck and took us both into the house, where he tied us up and demanded valuables,” the visitor related.
The mother of three said their attacker warned them not to speak and ordered them to hand over everything they had.
Earle said their ordeal lasted between 15 and 20 minutes during which time the assailant threatened to kill them before he took their gold jewels and some $10,000 cash.
She said, after collecting the booty, the robber spoke to someone on his cellular phone, telling the person he was ready to be picked up.
Then he walked to the main road and joined a taxi, the driver of which was, subsequently, arrested and is in Police custody assisting with the investigations.
