…Andre Russell appointed Gayle’ s deputy

CHRIS Gayle and Andre Russell have been appointed captain and vice-captain of the Jamaica Tallawahs for the 2016 HERO CPL season and both men are keen to lead the franchise to its second hold on the champions’ trophy.General Manager Mohammed Khan said the appointments were made with winning in mind.
“Chris brings experience and an outstanding record to the captaincy. We’ve also made the decision to support, to appoint Andre Russell as our vice-captain.
Andre is a natural choice to fulfill this crucial position and the decision to appoint him accentuates our determination to achieve continuous improvement,” said Khan.
The Tallawahs open their campaign on Sunday, July 2 against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Warner Park and preparations that began last week and are now in high gear, have been going well. Gayle said he is feeling positive about the upcoming campaign.
“The entire Tallawahs team are excited about the opening of CPL,” Gayle said. “We have a really exciting bunch of players and our goal is to add more silverware to our trophy cabinet. As captain, I will be rallying the troops and looking to put on a show.”
Russell, who is returning to the Caribbean after successful campaigns overseas said being named vice-captain gives him added motivation to lead the team to what would be their second title.
“I am very happy and proud to have been made the vice-captain of the Tallawahs. It is an honour and I hope to help Chris and the team as much as I can,” Russell declared. “I am really excited about this year’s CPL.
I think we have a strong squad and I know all the players and coaches are really hungry for us to do well and to hopefully lift the trophy again and give our great Jamaican fans plenty to cheer and celebrate.”
