THE various sub-associations of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) yesterday received gear and equipment from their parent body in the Federation’s boardroom.According to embattled GFF president Christopher Matthias, the presentation of gear and equipment to the eight sub-associations is part of his Federation’s continued developmental plan for football in Guyana.
Matthias stated that the gear and equipment will be used by the sub-associations in the preparation of their respective teams that will contest the GFF’s national inter-sub-association tournament which gets under way next Saturday across the country.
Keith O’Jeer who is responsible for the development of grounds and clubs related that the kit distributed yesterday was just a few things, but more donations expected from FIFA and those will be distributed to clubs throughout the country.
GFF’s Technical Development Officer Lyndon France in brief remarks said the gear and equipment distributed were given to the GFF by football world governing body FIFA and instead of the GFF having them in their store room, they decided to hand them out to the various associations who had made requests for assistance since they (sub-associations) are financially strapped.
The handouts include balls, bibs, training cones and markers.
Among the associations present yesterday to receive their gifts were: East Bank Football Association president Wayne Francois, West Demerara Football Association president Nigel Garraway, Georgetown Football Association vice-president Lavern Fraser-Thomas, East Demerara Football Association Public Relations Officer Laun Gooding and Essequibo Football Association Secretary Magzene Stewart.
Four matches are set for the opening day of the inter-sub-association tournament next Saturday.
Georgetown will face East Coast in Georgetown, Essequibo will host West Demerara, Berbice will travel to Linden for their match and East Bank will host Bartica.
