Strategic plan to be developed for GPOC

A STRATEGIC business plan, geared at improving the services of the Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC), will soon be developed to ensure the entity can provide all levels of services needed by the citizenry.
Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure Annette Ferguson made this revelation at a press conference on Monday at the Ministry’s Kingston Office.
She indicated that even though the Post Office is facing major challenges, the Administration intends to work towards ensuring that the entity can maintain its viability and importance to the Guyanese populace, as this is in keeping with its mandate to fulfill its social obligation.
Some of the business services currently provided by the GPOC include the distribution of flyers, bulk mailing service, priority mail, pick-up and delivery, government priority, sale of revenue stamps in bulk, and the rental of private letter bags.
Whilst the Board of Directors for the Post Office will soon be in place, Minister Ferguson is on record, having indicated the intent to modernise the operations of the corporation and so better address deficiencies.
Minister Ferguson recently attended the Caribbean Postal Union Conference held under the theme ‘Future of the Post’ in Tortola, British Virgin Island. The conference examined the sustainability and harmonisation of the postal sector in the region, as the sector faces major challenges with the advent of technology amongst other things.
