MAHENDRA Boodhoo is the new president of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) following that body’s Annual General Meeting and election of office-bearers Thursday evening at its Thomas Lands facility. Boodhoo, who ran unopposed at the meeting, will head an executive committee which will see the return of Chet Singh as vice -president of the club along with Hansraj Singh as treasurer.
The new executives are Shane Ally as secretary, Peter Peroune as assistant secretary/treasurer, Harold Hopkinson as club captain and Brian Ten-Pow as technical adviser.
In his first address as president, Boodhoo outlined one of his principal focuses as the extension of the South Dakota raceway, saying, “One of the main things for me coming here is to concentrate on the extension of the track, so I wish that everyone here helps me with that.”
“We will do the best of our ability and try to make the best of what we have. We will move motor racing and develop it. We have lots of plans. Most of us here would have come with something different but we will choose what is of priority and that is what we are going to work with,” continued the new GMR&SC president.
The returning committee members include Paul Jiwanram and Diana D’Ornellas while former president John Carpenter joins Rameez Mohammed Irfaan Kalamadeen to complete the twelve-member body.
The lone slate was proposed by Cyril Angoy and seconded by Mohamad S. Roshandin.
