Soldier granted bail over stolen cellphone

A TWENTY-FIVE-year-old Guyana Defence Force (GDF) soldier who allegedly received a stolen cellphone while knowing it was stolen, was on Wednesday brought before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and placed on $10,000 bail.Ashton Cummings, of Lot 156 Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke/Linden Highway pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
It is alleged that on July 18 at Croal Street, Georgetown, Cummings received a cell-phone from Dannie Alicock, knowing same to be stolen. Police Prosecutor, Deniro Jones did not reveal the facts surrounding the matter, nor did he object to bail.
The matter will continue on August 11 before city Magistrate Annett Singh.
