Singh’s 123 keeps Johnson’s XI on top at Bourda

VISHAUL Singh converted his overnight 50 into a solid 123 to ensure that the Leon Johnson’s XI continue to dominate the Shimron Hetmyer’s XI, who trail by 204 runs heading into the penultimate day of the national side’s four-day practice match currently being played at the GCC ground, Bourda.

The left-handed Singh resumed his overnight score of 76 on his club ground and firmly pressed until he became the first batsman to register triple figures.
All-rounder Christopher Barnwell (43) struck four fours and a six but was unlucky to miss out on a half-century, sharing a 105-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Singh as the Johnson XI ended their first innings on 344.
Earlier in the day, Johnson’s XI resumed from a comfortable score of 238 for 5 from 84 overs with the centurion and Barnwell on 16. When Barnwell departed wickets began to tumble around Singh, as Anthony Bramble, Steven Jacobs and Veersammy Permaul all went cheaply.
Pacer Raun Johnson claimed 3-29, ending as the most successful bowler and was supported by fellow fast-bowler Keon Joseph with 2-60 while Gudakesh Motie, Steven Sankar and
Javon Searles bagged a wicket each.
In reply, Shimron Hetmyer countered with a brisk 53 which included nine fours while Kevon Boodie supported with an unbeaten 41 and Tevin Imlach, 26. At stumps, Hetmyer’s XI were 140 for 6.
Johnson’s XI bowling was led by off-spinner Steven Jacobs (3-36) and there was a wicket each for Anthony Adams, Raymon Reifer and Veerasammy Permaul.
Day-three session bowls off at 09:00hrs today.
