CHIEF Instructor Sensei Winston Dunbar and nine-year-old black belt Sadella Britton were honoured by the Guyana Wado Ryu Karate Association at the Association’s Annual Junior championships which coincided with Guyana’s Golden Jubilee celebrations. Sensei Dunbar and Britton were both presented with trophies with Dunbar receiving the honour for achieving 50 years as a martial arts practitioner while Britton was declared the leading junior karateka over the past year.
The junior competition, sponsored by Banks DIH Limited, was held at the Sports Club at Thirst Park recently and medals were presented to the top performers.
Britton won the Girls’ 6-9 year category with Zuri Waldron finishing in second position.
In other results, Eric Yang won the Boys’ 5-8 years ‘A’ division with second place being captured by Emmanuel Campbell while Kahalfani McAlister finished third.
The Boys’ 5-8 years ‘B’ division winner was Rajkumar Khunder with Justin Oriffield placing second and Allan Lam third.
The Boys’ 5-8 ‘C’ division was won by Mahir Rajkumar who came out ahead of Anand Persaud and V. Naraine.
Derangali Naraine won the Girls’ 5-8 ‘A’ category ahead of Tinashe Graig and Vasanna Persaud.
Cyron Nedd secured victory in the Boys’ 9-11 ‘A’ division with D’Anfernee Cush in second spot while Abhinav Singh copped first place in the Boys’ 9-11 ‘B’ category ahead of D’Andre Rose.
The Girls’ 12-14 division went to Nandanie Kuldip who won over Allicia Benjamin while Shay Britton copped first place in the Boys’ 12-14 ‘A’ division beating Jayden Craig and Ricky Campbell.
Darren Bobb won the Boys’ 12-14 ‘B’ division ahead of Chivpersaud Ragnauth and Isack Simpson.
