AFTER almost a year on the run, Jamal Forde was yesterday charged for the robbery/murder of Sophia shopkeeper Shawn Anys on May 1, 2015 at Sophia, Greater Georgetown.Forde is the second person to be charged with the murder of 24-year-old Anys of ‘D’ Field, Sophia. He was not required to plead to the capital charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Ally-Seepaul at Sparendaam Magistrates’ Courts.
Police Prosecutor Corporal David Goodridge told the court that further advice was being sought from the Director of Public Prosecutions. The matter was adjourned until May 31.s
Last week, 24-year-old Odel Roberts of ‘C’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was committed to stand trial at the High Court for Anys’s murder.
Anys, who owned and managed a small grocery shop at his home was confronted by the bandits just before 11:00 pm on that Friday night (May 1, 2015).
According to reports, the man was in his home when he heard his dogs barking and ventured out of the house to investigate.
He was then confronted by two armed men who forced him into the house and shot him while demanding money and valuables. The gunmen made off with $40,000 in cash along with jewellery.
Anys was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
