CHIEF Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry granted $40,000 bail to a 31-year-old sea captain charged with fraudulent conversion, when he appeared before her at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.Seapaul Lakeram of 133 1st Street Mocha, East Bank Demerara denied the charge. It is alleged that on April 7 at Houston, East Bank Demerara. Lakeram being solely entrusted by Jarmain Dharma with $190,000 to purchase groceries converted the said money to his own use and benefit.
The prosecutor did not reveal the facts to the court nor objected to bail being granted. Lakeram will return to court before Magistrate Annett Singh on April 27.
