STUDENTS of the Freeburg Secondary School on Norton Street, Georgetown, assisted by residents in the area, inflicted a sound thrashing on a knife-wielding intruder at about midday on Monday, after he attempted to injure several students.According to reports, during the midday recess, the man was seen entering the school’s compound with a knife in his hand. Reports are that he was trying to locate a male student who had earlier assaulted a female student who is reportedly this man’s sister. The man caught up with his intended target, but the young man broke the grip with which he had held him and ran away.
It was then that the male population of the school came to their colleague’s aid. The intruder then attempted to injure two other students, and that was when residents nearby joined in the melee and dealt him a beating. Police had to be called in to restore order.
When the Guyana Chronicle visited the scene, there were several police officers on motorcycles and a large crowd of students outside the school.
The man was taken away by the police, and is expected to be placed before the courts for his actions.
