The owner of Sanjay’s Jewellery, Bishnarine Persaud, was today sentenced to 58 months in prison after he was found guilty of dangerous driving. He plans to appeal the Magistrate Judy Latchman’s decision. Persaud’s lawyer had requested bail pending the appeal, but the Magistrate refused.
Persaud, of Lot 26 Sheriff Street, Georgetown, was found guilty of driving his motor car, PKK 5501, in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Leon Hunte, a 55-year-old handyman.
The incident occurred last September.
