Rutherford, Forrester slam centuries.. DCC, GCC to clash in GCA/NBS final

Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) youngster Sherfane Rutherford’s all-round brilliance enabled his club to comfortably crush Everest Cricket Club by eight wickets in their semi-final match of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)-sponsored New Building Society second division 40-over cricket tournament yesterday.

DCC will now reach the Georgetown Cricket Club(GCC) in the final at a date and venue to be confirmed, after GCC whipped Transport Sports Club by 74 runs in the other semi-final playoff.
The talented Rutherford took 4-50, and then smashed an unbeaten 107, inclusive of seven fours and eight sixes. The home team reached 182-2 in 26 overs, in reply to Everest 181.
Left- arm spinner Ashmead Nedd also claimed four wickets for 32 runs, while off-spinner Dennis Squires took the other two wickets.
Troy Gonslaves made a top score of 52 (4×4, 1×6), while Akshaya Persaud chipped in with 38, inclusive of five fours and a six for the visitors.

Over at GCC, Winston Forrester’s innings of 107 set the tone for an easy victory for the host. After deciding to bat first, GCC reached 219-6 off their 40 overs.
Forrester played the attacking role, with 11 fours and two sixes after a few early wickets in favourable sunshine.
Forrester timed the ball well before his innings came to end off 75 balls. Martin Pestano-Bell, who stroked two fours, contributed 25, while Devon Lord hit three fours in his 22. Manny Ford and Stephen Wilson scored 16 runs apiece.
Bowling for TSC, Oslyn Batson (2-46), Shawn Massiah (2-33) and Azeem Azee (2-38) were the successful bowlers.
GCC bowlers then combined together to bowl out TSC for 147 in reply. Lord (3-18), Forrester (2-16), Deonarine Seegobin (2-22) and Wilson (2-22) were the main destroyers for GCC.
Charwayne McPherson top scored with 31, while Massiah contributed 27 in a losing cause.
