`Road to Portugal’ halted

THE Guyana Football Federation (GFF) on Tuesday stated that the fundraising campaign for the National U-17s tour to Portugal in October has been cancelled.According to a release, acting president of the GFF, Retired Brigadier Bruce Lovell, met with the parents who formed the fundraising committee, last Tuesday, to inform them of the cancellation of the ‘Road to Portugal’, while expressing regret and thanking them for the enthusiasm and support shown in the fundraising campaign which was launched on August 19.
The GFF further advised that the organisers of the first FUTURE Cup U-17 Portugal, ‘We Believe’, declared that they failed to attract the number of teams they anticipated.
Additionally cost factors and European U-17 qualifiers were other issues that led to the cancellation of the international tournament.
The First FUTURE Cup U-17 Portugal was set for October 14 to 23 in the city of Aveira and was intended to be an International development tournament with teams from North, Central and South America, Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. (Ras Wadada)
