THE reduction in fuel prices, announced by Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh, yesterday was welcomed by the Head of the Guyana Rice Producers’ Association (RPA), Dharamkumar Seeraj.

And in an interview with the Guyana Chronicle he explained that the reductions will assist rice farmers, as well as other sector stakeholders in their operational undertakings.
“For farmers in particular, the reduced prices will help when it comes to their work with land preparation and transportation, among other things,” he said.
The reductions in prices for gasoline, diesel and kerosene are applicable at all Guyana Oil Company (Guyoil) Stations.
Gas price will be reduced from $995per gallon to $695, representing a 30
percent reduction; diesel price was also reduced by 30 percent, from $985 to $694; and kerosene saw a reduction of 42 percent, from $850 to $496.
Seeraj lauded the fact that the reductions will take fuel prices to their lowest since 2009.
Prior to the Finance Minister’s announcement, the RPA had called for a reduction of the prices, given the global trends.
The reduction is expected to take full effect from today, January 20.
