THE Rose Hall Town Metro Female Team won their fifth successive game against their male counterparts when they cruised past No. 52 Survival Under-19 team by 61 runs in a 25-Overs cricket match.

Superbly led by West Indies all-rounder Shemaine Campbelle, Guyana’s only female cricket team thrilled a large crowd last Saturday at the No. 52 Ground with a superb display of top class cricket.

No. 52 Survival Under-19 Team won the toss and inserted the visitors to take first strike. National players Melanie Henry and Shaneeta Grimmond added 72 for the first wicket before Henry was caught and bowled by Richard Drepaul for 22.

Grimmond went on to score an impressive 35 and along with skipper Shemaine Campbelle 49 and fellow national player Plaffiana Millington 32 saw Rose Hall Town Metro to an impressive 175 for 6 off their 25-Overs.

Campbelle struck five boundaries and a massive six before she was dismissed off the last ball of the innings.

Bowling for No. 52 Survival Drepaul claimed three wickets for 32 runs from 5-Overs while N. Tulsi took 2 for 27.

Needing to score 176 from 25-Overs saw the embarrassment of being defeated by females, the No. 52 Under-19 Team suffered an early setback when medium pacer Sherica Campbelle had R. Tulsi caught behind by Shemaine Campbelle for 02 at 13 for 1 in the 3rd over.

The home team never recovered and were restricted to 114 all out from 20.3 Overs. Only Hemant Singh with a composed 33, Raj Rahaman 18 and D. Rahaman 13 reached double figures as the Rose Hall Town Metro Female bowled well and were brilliant in the field.

Offspinner Melanie Henry Secretary/CEO of the Rose took four wickets for 25 runs from five impressive Overs, Shabati Gajnabi took 3 for 30 from five Overs while Plaffiana Millington, Sherica Campbelle and Shaneeta Grimmond took one wicket a-piece.

Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Hilbert Foster and Coach Collis Butts both expressed gratitude to the No. 52 team for inviting the Metro Female team and for hosting them.

Foster noted that the Berbice cricketing public was very supportive of the female team and the club was receiving numerous invitations from across the country as male teams from Georgetown, East Coast Demerara, Essequibo and the Corentyne Coast are requesting to play Guyana’s only female cricket team.

The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Cricket Development Committee would only accept such requests after careful consideration of the club’s track record of hosting teams and a willingness to make a return visit to the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club.

Foster is also challenging established First Division Teams across Guyana to form a female cricket division.
