EARLY morning showers did not dampen the spirit of the second day of competition in the Guyana Softball Cup 5 which continued its second day of competition yesterday at venues across Georgetown.In the masters, Regal Masters beat New York Better Hope by to book their spot in the final after they were able to overhaul a small target of 77, set earlier.
In the second semi-final for the masters Floodlight beat Albion by 111 runs after the earlier posted a 199 total.
In response, Albion were all out for 88 in 19.4 overs.
Meanwhile, the first semi-final for the open division at the Police Sports club ground had seen Regal advancing to the next round.
Batting first, Regal rattled up 189 in 20 overs while in reply, Shakib fell 76 runs short as they finished all out for 113.
In earlier matches in the open division, Regal XI beat off Mercenaries by 114 runs.
Regal XI batting first posted 207 for 9 in 20 overs thanks to Navin Singh 51 and Safraz Khan 77 while Bowling for Mercenaries Nankishore Narayan had 25/3 in 4 overs.
Mercenaries in reply made 63 all out in 16.3 overs with Greg Singh and Gajanand Singh both making 19.
Bowling for Regal XI Richard Latiff 25/3 in 4 overs.
Shakib’s side had a closer battle against Hyde park at Malteenoes ground as they won by 19 runs
They made 95 for 9 in 15 overs with Diaran Persaud 31.
Bowling for Hyde Park Richardo Adams 11/5 in 3 overs and Uicle Armstrong 19/2 in 3 overs
Hyde Park in reply 76 for 9 in 13.2 overs with Gribon Mohamed 13 while the bowling for Shakib XI saw A. Mohamed bagg 10/3 in 3 overs and L. Ramsarran 12/2 in 3 overs.
Other winners included Wolf Warriors who beat Corriverton at Malteenoes by 51 runs while NYSCL All Stars beat Petama Enterprise at Everest by 83 runs.
