YANNIC Cariah scored a fighting unbeaten half-century to steer a battling Trinidad and Tobago Red Force to 136-3, at the end of the rain affected second day of their sixth-round West Indies Cricket Board’s Professional Cricket League (PCL) Four-Day game against host, Guyana Jaguars at the Guyana National Stadium. At the forefront of the battle were the unflappable pair of left-handed Cariah, who batted responsible to be unbeaten on 58 , and skipper Jason Mohammed, who was on 18 at the close.
Earlier, the 27-year-old Vishal Singh struck his fourth first-class hundred, and was eventually left unbeaten on 104; an innings that spanned 295 balls with 14 fours.
Resuming under hazy conditions on 204-7, the Jaguars were bowled out just before the lunch interval. Off-spinner Jon Russ Jagessar quickly removed overnight batsman Devendra Bishoo and Gudekash Motie for 11 and two respectively, but Singh, who resumed on 88, remained firm at the other end.
He eked out his hundred in company with tailender Keon Joseph, amid congratulations from his teammates and the sprinkling of spectators from beyond the boundary ropes.
However, Joseph was then removed by Rayad Emrit, as the innings came to a close after 90.4 overs. Seamer ,Marlon Richards (3-41), Emrit (3-44), and Jaggesar (3-59), were the destructive bowlers for the visitors.
When Red Force started their reply,Kyle Hope (09), who welcomed Permaul with a four, was eventually removed by Permaul on the stroke of lunch at 19-1.
Persistent afternoon showers restricted the post-lunch session to just 36 minutes of play. Evin Lewis struck a six and three fours, but did not hang around for too long during that period. He was removed by Joseph for 26.
Guyanese-born Narsingh Deonarine started positively with a straight- driven boundary off Permaul, and by the tea interval the Red Force were 62-2, with Yannic Cariah on 22.
When the action resumed ,the pair safely navigated their way to 98, but Deonarine’s resistance ended when he was trapped leg before wicket to Raymond Reifer for 18.
On the other hand, the left-handed Cariah who was looking at ease against the Jaguars attack, reached his seventh half-century from 116 balls.
Cariah, whose innings spanned 125 balls with five fours and a six, and Jason Mohammed batted wisely to ensure they returned to the crease today after rain stopped play prematurely yesterday .
Play continues today at 09:30h, and admission to the venue is free.
