Ramdhanis reign supreme at Woodpecker Products badminton tourney

NATIONAL player Priyanna Ramdhani made a clean sweep of all three titles in the female category, while sibling Narayan ended with two of the three titles on the male side when the Woodpecker Products Annual Christmas Singles concluded yesterday at the Queens College auditorium.Already having taken the Under- 13 and Under- 15 titles, Priyanna sealed her win of the Under-19 ladies singles after she once again took down Abosaide Cadogan in the finals winning 21 – 6, 21 – 8.

Trailing behind Priyanna throughout the competition, Cadogan also ended second in the under 13 and under 15 categories as well.

In the Under- 13 and Under- 15 girls category Siya Persaud and Priyanka Shivnauth shared the third place position, while in the girls Under- 19 category it was shared between Amanda Daniels and Nyckelle Yearwood

Narayan registered another three wins as things closed off on Saturday, defeating Jonathan Mangra, Christopher Persaud and Avinash Odit as he took the top honors in the men open singles. Against Mangra, who finished second, Narayan took a 21 – 11, 21 – 11 victory. He ended 21 – 6, 21 – 19 against Persaud, and took out Odit for 21 – 11, 21 – 15.

Narayan had already gained the boys Under- 17 title earlier last week. Following the close of the competition winners were presented with their respective prizes. The presentation was made by parents present and Quanli Yang of China Harbour Engineering.
The Guyana Badminton Association took the opportunity to once again express gratitude to Luanna Fernandes proprietor of Woodpecker Products, the sponsor of the tournament. The tournament marked the close of the badminton competition for the year, and has been sponsored by Woodpecker for the past four years.

Narayan Ramdhani defeated Avinash Odit: 21-11, 21-15
Avinash Odit defeated Ronald Chang Yuen: 21-16, 13-21, 16-21
Jonathan Mangra defeated Christopher Persaud: 21-17, 23-21
Jonathan Mangra defeated Ronald Chang Yuen: 21-17, 21-13
