THE CAREBACO (Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation) International Under-19 Championship in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic came to an end for Guyanese Narayan Ramdhani in the quarter-finals on Saturday.In a long, tiring and frustrating three-set game against Angel Marinez Ulloa of the Dominican Republic, the Guyanese lost the first game 20-16 but came back strong in the second game, winning at 18-21.
In the third game Narayan was in the lead at 20-16 and due to four wrong line calls in favour of the DR player by the DR line judges Narayan lost the game and match at 23-21.
A report was made to the Chief Umpire and Tournament Director about the issue and an investigation was done resulting with the umpire being disciplined and prevented from umpiring for the rest of the tournament.
The Under-19 CAREBACO Team tournament starts today with Guyana in Group B alongside Puerto Rico, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago.
Group A consists of Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Suriname & Panama.
The Team tournament will be a good warm-up for our local players to prepare for the CAREBACO Individual Championships starting August 27.
