Suspect arrested weeks after death of accomplice in failed Sherriff St. armed robbery

FIVE weeks after Agricola youth Kevin Fields was shot dead by a businessman following an armed robbery at Ramchand’s Auto Spares in Campbellville, the police have arrested his suspected accomplice, and have detained that suspect to assist in their investigations.

This suspect is also allegedly involved in an armed robbery that occurred at the Medicare Pharmacy at Sandy Babb Street, Kitty sometime after the Ramchand’s Auto Spares robbery.

Fields, 21, was fatally shot on July 14 by a businessman after he had snatched a bag containing some $1.7M from a customer at Ramchand’s Auto Spares on Sheriff Street and attempted to flee.

The Guyana Chronicle understands that the Agricola resident and an accomplice, who is said to be the suspect that was arrested by the police, had trailed the businessman from another location in the city, and after the man had entered Ramchand’s Auto Spares, he followed him there.

This publication was informed that the bandit and his accomplice had arrived on a Honda CG motorcycle, and had parked to the south, over Duncan Street.

According to Ramchand Ragbeer, owner of the Sheriff Street business, he was in his office when he heard someone shouting for “Thief!” and suddenly he saw a young man dashing out of the store with the businessman in hot pursuit.

As the bandit made his way to his accomplice on the waiting motorcycle, he spotted his robbery victim racing after him and fired a shot at him, but the licensed firearm holder returned fire, hitting the bandit to the head.

His motorcycle accomplice then sped away from the scene, and, according to information reaching this newspaper, returned later to stand at a distance, away from the gathered crowd, to see what had become of his friend. This assertion has, however, not been confirmed by the police.

A police release had this to say: “A suspect in the armed robbery of the Medicare Outlet at Sandy Babb Street, Georgetown, and also in the armed robbery of a businessman on Sheriff Street, Georgetown, during which Kevin Fields of Agricola was shot and killed, has been arrested. He is in police custody assisting with the investigations.”

When this publication attempted to visit Fields’s Facebook profile for the second time, Facebook revealed that that account was no longer functioning, since it had been de-activated by a person or persons unknown.
