Rain ruins Amazon Warriors final practice game

… depart today for St Kitts and Nevis

THE Guyana Amazon Warriors were robbed of some vital match practice yesterday when the second warm-up game was abandoned without a ball being bowled at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence. Heavy rainfall throughout the day meant that the players were forced to pass time indoors, as they also could not utilise the practice area.

The game was due to begin at 12:00 hrs, but was called off minutes after the scheduled start, limiting the Amazon Warriors to just one practice match ahead of their first Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) game against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Warner Park on June 30.
In the first warm-up game, the Warriors defeated the Guyana Select X1 by 49 runs on Friday night.
Batting first under lights, the Warriors made 170-7 from their allotment of overs. Left-handed batsmen Assad Fudadin led the way with 48, while Jason Mohammed made a composed 36.
Australian Chris Lynn and wicket-keeper Anthony Bramble contributed 20 and 24 respectively to the Warriors’ total.
Fast bowler Keon Joseph took 3-30, while the medium pacer of Shurfane
Rutherford had two wickets.
In response, the Guyana Select XI were limited to 121-9 in reply with Devendra Bishoo and Sohail Tanvir picking up three wickets each.
Robin Bacchus 24 (3x4s) from 18 balls and Leon Johnson with 22, were the top-scorers.
