Rain forces postponement of football trials

HEAVY rains that left the Camp Ayangana ground under water yesterday, brought a halt to the football trials to select the national U-17 team.The Technical staff was forced to call off the trials midway through the opening day of the two- day trials that would have concluded today.
The young footballers, from eight member FAs of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), are expected to be back on the pitch next weekend to test their skills in quest of making the final 18 to travel to the US Virgin Islands for the Caribbean Football Union’s (CFU) Boys U-17 Group competition.
At the end of the, trials which involve some 66 players, a squad of 26 will be selected for a ten- day encampment at the end of which the tour party will be announced. The team will depart Guyana on July 13th for the USVI where they will play their opening match against Jamaica two days later
. The second game will be against the home team on the 17th and the final group 4 match for the Guyanese will be against Antigua and Barbuda on the 19th.
