Queen’s College, Bishops’ High and Saints dominate swimming events

QUEEN’S College, Bishops’ High and St Stanislaus College made outstanding wins to champion their respective zones when the North Georgetown Inter-School Championships began with the swimming and cycling segments on Tuesday. With 84 points Queen’s College topped zone one in swimming, while in the same zone Richard Ishmael mastered the cycling with 208 points.
Bishops’ High were too much for the other competitors, in zone two, reigning supreme in both the swimming and cycling divisions.
Backed by the strength of national swimmers Accalia Khan, Amy Grant, and Dylan Nurse, Bishops’ did their usual take of dominating the swimming segment, racking up 219 points, while ending with 283 points to take the win in the cycling division.
The swimming was held at the MCYS Colgrain Swimming Pool, while the cycling took place at the National Park.
Goodwill Swimming Championship bronze medallist Accalia Khan led the way for Bishops’ High in the girls’ Under-18 category where she landed first place in the 50m freestyle (29.31s), 100m freestyle (1:07.63s) and the 50m backstroke (33.91s).
Coming back to swimming after out for a number of weeks, national Girls’ 13-14 champion Amy Grant took first place in the Girls’ Under-16 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly.
However, Christ Church’s Anna Isaacs got the better of Grant in the 100m freestyle. Christ Church finished behind Bishops’ in the swimming with 179 points.
Bishops’ also took leading wins in the Girls’ Under-12 category, where Liam Winter ruled the roost.
In zone three, St Stanislaus College also excelled in both the swimming and cycling with 196 and 62 points, respectively.
In the swimming, Saints gained high wins mainly on the male side, where the team contained national swimmers Nathon Hackett and Daniel Scott.
The North Georgetown District comprises 19 secondary schools and 12 primary schools, which are divided into four zones. The secondary schools are spread out across the first three zones while zone four includes all the primary schools in the district.
The schools will first compete within their zones at the inter-school stage, where the top two athletes in each event go on to compete at the inter-zone level.
Competition at the inter-school level continued yesterday, with the field events at the YMCA ground.
Competition continues further today with the field events, while tomorrow will see zone 4 track event at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary.
