Public-spirited citizens foil,arrest two armed robbers at Mahaica

RANDOLPH Singh, 39, a vendor of Vereeniging, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, was about to enter his residence around 19:30hrs Wednesday last when he was confronted by four men armed with firearms, who held him at gunpoint along with his family and a labourer.During the robbery Randolph Singh was assaulted and shot to his left thigh.
The perpetrators took away $600,000 in cash, a quantity of jewellery and escaped in a waiting vehicle.

They were pursued by public- spirited citizens during which the getaway vehicle ran into a canal and two of the men were arrested by villagers. The others managed to escape.

The two suspects were handed over to the police, who had also responded to the report, and are in custody. The motor vehicle has been detained.

An unlicensed .32 Taurus revolver with two rounds and two spent shells were recovered by the police.

Randolph Singh was treated at a private hospital.

An investigation is in progress.
