A THIRTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD security guard of 231 Craig Public Road, East Bank Demerara, was yesterday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.

Jermaine Chapman pleaded not to both charges, one of which said on Friday, October 17 at Arangoy Landing, Cuyuni River, he had in his possession one 9 mm Smith and Wesson pistol, without being a firearm license holder.
Particulars of the other charge said on the same day, at Arangoy Landing Cuyuni River, had 10 live 9mm rounds when he was not a license holder.
Police Prosecutor Michael Grant told the court that on the day in question, around 11:15hrs, the defendant was walking on the landing and as he was passing, a rank noticed his pants waist was bulging. He was stopped and a search revealed the firearm and ammunition in his possession.
Prosecutor Grant successfully opposed bail on the grounds of the nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence.
He also objected that, in order for bail to be granted, special reason should be advanced. However, bail was refused and the case was transferred to Bartica Court for October 30.
