— on tragic loss of lives in Valparaiso fire

The following is the full text of a message sent Chilean President, Ms Michelle Bachelet, yesterday by President Donald Ramotar, offering his condolence on the loss of lives during a fire which ravaged the port city of Valparaiso over the weekend.

“Madame President,
“It was with deep sadness that we received the news of the tragic loss of lives and widespread destruction to property caused by the fire that on Saturday, April 12th, raged in the city of Valparaíso, Chile.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Guyana, I convey our deepest sympathies to the Government and people of Chile. Our thoughts are especially with those who have been directly affected.
“It is our hope that the nation of Chile will soon recover from this tragedy.”
