PRESIDENT Donald Ramotar and a team are in the United States to participate in the United Nations General Assembly Meeting yesterday held two bilateral meetings.The first was with the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Cuba, Bruno Eduardo Rodriguez Parilla. During that meeting, bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed.
President Ramotar reiterated this and his Government’s appreciation for Cuba’s assistance in technical cooperation. He took the opportunity to reassure the Foreign Minister of Guyana’s firm and continued support for the removal of the U.S. economic embargo against Cuba.
A bilateral meeting with the Mr. Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda and Chair of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community  (CARICOM) saw the two heads discussing issues on the CARICOM agenda.
They also addressed the possibilities of improving bilateral trade between the two countries.
At the annual United Nations High level Assembly Meeting, consisting of the Assembly’s General Debate, foreign ministers, diplomats and world leaders of the 192 members of the United Nations will discuss a wide range of issues in national and international affairs.
President Ramotar is slated to make a presentation to the General Assembly on Friday, September 26.
Accompanying him are First Lady Deolatchmee Ramotar, Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh, Foreign Affairs Minister Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett and Director General of the Foreign Ministry Elisabeth Harper.
Amerindian Affairs Minister Pauline Sukhai is also in attendance and participated in the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples.
Ambassador George Talbot and other officers from the Guyana Mission in New York are also part of Guyana’s delegation.
