Guyana bag five silver and one bronze in team events

THE Guyana Pre-Cadet Table Tennis team are currently battling for regional table tennis supremacy in the 2016 Caribbean Pre Cadet Table Tennis championships at the National Arena, Kingston Jamaica.In their quest for championship honours the team secured 5 silver medals 1 bronze medal in Team events played on days one and two.
Guyana secured two silver and a bronze in the 13 years-and-under Boys’ team events through Kaysan Ninvalle, Isaiah Layne and Niran Bissu though they lost in a tough contested battle to Trinidad and Tobago in the Team events on Tuesday.
En route to the final, the team defeated Barbados, Jamaica A and B.
In the 13 years-and-under category the team of Thuraia Thomas, Neveah Clarkston and Abigale Martin also secured silver.
For the 11 years-and-under class the Guyana young team of Colin Wong, Dhanesh Persaud, Krystain Sahadeo and Alexander de Abreu had to settle for bronze after they defeated Barbados.
13 years-and-under Girls’ Doubles Abigale Martin and Neveah Clarkston picked up silver after losing out to a Trinidadian duo by a 3-2 margin.
In the Mixed doubles the Under-13 pair of Kaysan Ninvalle and Abigale Martin played their hearts out but narrowly lost to Trinidad and Tobago.
The team used yesterday as a rest day with action resuming today in the singles competition. Guyana’s chances to steal gold and overcome their Trinidad counterparts hinge on Kaysan Ninvalle who is actually competing in the 13 years-and-under in the teams and doubles but is eligible for the 11 years-and-under where he will play the singles. Kaysan will be joined in the U-13 divison by Isaiah Layne, Niran Bissu and Alexander De Abreu.
Abigale Martin and Neveah Clarkston will also compete in the Girls’ 13 years-and-under singles while Thuraia Thomas will do battle in the 11 years-and-under singles division.
In the Under-11 class, Colin Wong, Dhanesh Persaud and Krystian Sahadeo will represent Guyana.
