AFTER being absent from the 11th Parliament since its commencement on June 10, 2015, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) which is now the Parliamentary Opposition, after being in Government for 23 years, is ready to “fire on all cylinders,” particularly during the budget debates, according to General Secretary Clement Rohee.Rohee was speaking yesterday during the PPP/C’s weekly press conference and when asked about the Party’s role in Parliament, he declared that, “we are going there to fire on all cylinders.”
He noted that the Party is going there to be combative, well informed and with intentions to contribute as constructively as they can, all citizens can look forward to very robust debates from their side.
“Of course we will be using all the facts and data that we have at our disposal to expose whatever falsities the Government might be seeking to pass over the eyes of the Guyanese people,” said Rohee.
23 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
And with 23 years of Government experience behind them, he added, they are fully acquainted with the issues.
However, while some of their comrades are not returning to Parliament, “we are not handicapped,” said Rohee, noting that they were able to distribute responsibilities for those sectors to other comrades who are competent in those areas.
THE ECONOMY
However, one of the major issues on their agenda is the economy. “We must bear one thing in mind, and that is during his presentation the Minister of Finance went far and wide in his presentation and did not only stick to the economy and the macroeconomic fundamentals and financial issues, but he dealt with almost everything under the sun.”
This, he pointed out, means that their Parliamentarians should be allowed to talk on anything political and otherwise that the minister raised, and should not be detoured from venturing into any area of discussion.
