PPP/C congratulates NACRA 7s Champs

THE North American and Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) 7s Champions are being showered with praise by the People Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C).

Guyana won their 7th NACRA title on December 5 when they defeated Mexico 33-28 in a sensational come-from-behind victory in Mexico City.
“The PPP/C extends warmest congratulations to the Guyana National Rugby team who continue to fly the Golden Arrowhead high and proudly by winning their seventh North America and Caribbean Rugby (NACRA) Sevens men championship in Mexico … this outstanding performance by the Guyanese team is another demonstration of the talents of our fellow citizens and how effective it can be when channelled in the right direction,” the Party said in a statement yesterday.
“It was another proud moment for Guyanese when it became known that our boys were down 21-7 in the first half, but managed to bounce back in the second half to beat the hosts Mexico 33-28. This is a clear demonstration of the talent and strength of our Guyanese sportsmen and women,” the release further stated.
According to the ruling party, they have long recognised the important role sports plays in uniting people and have also been investing heavily in sports since taking office.
“While we still have some distance to go, we have come a long way. Having been able to build our own world class cricket stadium at Providence, Olympic-sized Aquatic Centre at Liliendaal, with a warm-up pool to be opened soon, the synthetic athletic track on the West Demerara and installation of flood light at Albion are just a few of the major projects. The PPP will continue to support our local sportsmen and women in any way possible.”
In its message to the history-making Rugby team, the PPP/C encourages the ‘Green Machine’ as they are popularly called, to continue to fly the Golden Arrowhead high. “Wherever you go we are 100% behind you.”
