PPP MP allegedly threatens IDB official

People’s Progressive Party backbencher, Nigel Dharamlall has been accused of allegedly issuing threats to an official of the Inter-American Development Bank. Police have confirmed that they are investigating a matter involving Dharamlall, a former permanent secretary for the then Ministry of Amerindian Affairs. The lawmen would not divulge what the accusations against the legislator are. Media reports indicate that the alleged threat was made at an East Coast Demerara village. In a very terse statement, attorney for Dharamlall, Glenn Hanoman said that:” given the sensational speculations and inaccurate information already in the public domain, I am constrained, on behalf of my client, to clarify the following: We, first and foremost, wish for the matter to be thoroughly and professionally investigated. Secondly, and towards this end, I have advised my client not to comment on the issue or engage the media so as not to interfere with, or prejudice this process. My client unequivocally denies any involvement in any criminal act,” Hanoman’s statement ended.
