Police trade bullets with suspects in car

THE Guyana Police Force stated that on Wednesday evening police ranks confronted occupants of a motor vehicle at Barr Street in Kitty, Georgetown.According to the release from the police, one of the ranks had sought assistance after he suspected that he was being trailed by a motorcar after he left the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) at Timehri shortly after he collected some relatives.
When the police ranks showed up to support their colleague, they came under fire from occupants of the motorcar which was following the vehicle of the lone rank and his family.
The police on the patrol returned fire wounding 37-year-old Shawn Thom of National Avenue, South Ruimveldt Park to his foot. He has been admitted a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital where, up to press time, he was under police guard.
His accomplice managed to escape even as the police were able to recover an unlicensed .38 revolver with 3 live rounds and 2 spent shells. The motorcar the two men were using has been seized by the police. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
