Police promotions list to be slashed

By Leroy Smith

THE list submitted by the Guyana Police Force to the Police Service Commission for the consideration of promotions will not have an easy passage. The Guyana Chronicle was on Friday reliably informed by sources close to the Commission that some names will be slashed from the list, which, according to sources, consists of persons who still have disciplinary matters before the Commission and the Police Office of Professional Responsibility; while others on the list are on pre-retirement leave and would, by the time the list is processed, have gone into retirement.

Moreover, the Commission is still in the process of scrutinizing the list to ensure that its final output is in keeping with the needs of the Guyana Police Force.
The vetting of the list is taking more than one month beyond the traditional December month-end period when the list is usually released and the promotions announced.

The promotions were not announced last year since, according to the Police Service Commission, the list from the GPF was received late. The Commission, in January, said it would be able to release the list of promotions only on or before February 23, given the amount of work that has to be put into making the list a ‘clean one’, and ensuring that those promoted to higher office are suitable.
