Police Constable Antonio Dawson of the Police Impact Base has died hours after he was stabbed multiple time about the body by a so far unidentified man. Dawson, a father of two, was at the time of the incident trying to negotiate with the suspect to put away a knife and subject himself to a search. As the rank got closer, the man advanced to him and quickly stabbed him several times before he, the suspect, turned the knife on himself, first stabbing himself to the chest and then slitting his own throat. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Hospital.
Dawson was among a group of ranks who backed up the ranks from the marine section of the force after receiving information that the suspect was acting in a suspicious manner. The Policeman was hospitalised shortly after the incident, but died during surgery. (Leroy Smith)
